Why four categories
Each of the four describes a hotel where the building or the idea behind it shapes the stay. An art hotel is defined by what hangs on its walls. A capsule hotel is defined by how little space it needs. A casino hotel is a large resort with a gaming floor among its features. An ice hotel is defined by the fact that it will melt. Narrow categories make for a short list, and a short list is easier to keep honest.
How entries are written
Every hotel gets one entry: its name, where it is, two short paragraphs and three plain tags. The writing sticks to the lasting character of a property. Its building, setting, design and the kind of guest it suits. Prices, availability, menus and opening hours change too often to be useful here, so they are left to the hotels themselves.
What the site is not
It is not a booking service, a review site or a travel agency. There are no scores, no star ratings and no guest reviews. Hotels do not pay to appear and are not told in advance that they will be listed. If you plan to stay somewhere listed here, confirm the details directly with the hotel.
